Delaware Senator Joe Biden was recently asked why he wears an American flag pin, by, as Biden put it, a “very attractive woman who looked like she just finished a sociology course at Bryn Mawr College, if you know what I mean.” According to the Washington Post, most of his audience clearly didn’t know what he meant.

Even David Karen, chair of sociology at Bryn Mawr, doesn’t know what he meant: “I don’t know what the senator means. But if Senator Biden is implying that sociology students at Bryn Mawr College are ‘very attractive’ and more liberal than he is, I wouldn’t spend any time trying to disabuse him of that notion.”

I’d guess that Biden was referencing the antiquated notion that Mawrters are so engrossed in their books and studies that they are unaware of what’s going on in the rest of the world. But hey, at least he understands that attractive women attend Bryn Mawr, so that’s progress, right?

In Boston, some Aqua Teen Hunger Force light boards triggered bomb scares! Apparently they’ve been up in 10 cities for a few weeks, but only in Boston did they cause bridges to be shut down.

First, I’m sorry, but this seems ridiculous. Some one thought that light art, which to me wouldn’t seem any different than sticker or stencil graffiti (a la Andre the Giant or Radiohead or Space Invaders), might be an explosive device? Really?

Second, this has to become part of an upcoming ATHF episode. The Mooninites would demand it!

Third, looks like ATHF has gotten exactly what they wanted — a lot of publicity! The company they hired to create this campaign may get a lot of criticism, but they clearly did their job well!

The explosion shall be of extraordinary magnitude. Just hang on. -Ignignokt

Because rather than look at ways that men and women can achieve equality in the workplace and in the home, they go and publish this: Why You Shouldn’t Marry A Career Woman.

First, any man that reads their infuriating headlines and biased factoids (note how many of the stats quoted also apply in the reverse) and doesn’t immediately think that this is incredibly insulting to both women and men should just go die. We don’t need any more people like you on the planet.

Second, any man that believes any of this crap is clearly a cry baby, lacking a spine, and is probably in need of serious psychotherapy. Stay away, ladies!

Third, any man that wants a woman who has no personal ambitions, who will spend all day catering to and cleaning and cooking for a man, and who will rear the children without the man’s involvement needs to invent a time machine and travel back a few hundred years!

Forbes, you’re all a bunch of fuckheads for even thinking of posting this crap.

P.S.: If you’re a woman that believes any of this stuff, snap out of it — it’s freakin’ 2006 already! Sheesh!

UPDATE (8/24/06): If you click on the above link, you’ll find that Forbes has pulled their original story and is redirecting readers to a new article, Careers and Marriage! I strongly suggest reading Rebecca Traister’s Salon.com article as a follow up.
